PPL wins prestigious Employee Engagement Award

Music licensing company PPL has been announced as the winner of the Reward and Recognition Award at the prestigious Employee Engagement Awards (EE Awards).

The ceremony, which took place on Thursday 28 January 2016 in London, recognised businesses striving to put their workforce at the heart of their operations.

With a variety of industries represented, the EE Awards identify organisations that have demonstrated excellent return on investment in people, innovation and employee experience. PPL has been recognised for reviewing its Reward Strategy and implementing changes that have engaged employees whilst aligning to business objectives.

Following the implementation of these benefits, PPL’s most recent employee survey shows that employee engagement has reached an all-time high. This has had a positive impact on the company as a whole, as it has helped increase productivity and in turn improve the cost-effectiveness of the business.

Kate Reilly, Director of People and Organisational Development, PPL said “At PPL we believe that it is essential to listen to and engage with our staff. By understanding what our staff want and working hard to reflect these in our recognition and reward schemes, we are able to have a happy and productive workforce. Not only has this meant that we have seen a great return on our investment, but just as importantly, we have created a place where people want to work and can enjoy themselves whilst doing it.”

PPL’s vision was to increase understanding of the benefits available, reduce cost, and update the current benefit offering so that it was relevant to the company’s demographic. PPL wanted employees to understand and take full advantage of the benefits available to them, as well as offer a package that would help to differentiate the company from other organisations.

An initial review of PPL’s Reward Strategy identified that the company’s employee benefit offering was not as relevant as it could be for its largely young and diverse workforce. After an extensive process of internal staff surveys and external research, findings were then used to develop a rewards package that better suited the wants and needs of PPL’s workforce.

As a result, PPL introduced rewards including music related activities, a holiday buy scheme and holiday entitlement increase with length of service. The internal brand ‘WE ARE REWARDING’ was also launched and used in all forms of communication relating to reward and recognition ‘to communicate and raise awareness of PPL’s newly created benefits.

Other businesses shortlisted for the Reward and Recognition category at the Employee Engagement Awards included Cancer Research UK, iforce, One-Stop and Twinings.
